England interim manager Lee Carsley has ruled out a return to England for Ivan Toney, despite the striker moving to Saudi Arabia for a big-money move.
Toney moved from Brentford to Al Ahly for £40m last week, ending a successful four-year spell with the west London side.
The 28-year-old has played for England at Euro 2024 but was not include in Carsley’s squad for the Nations League games against Ireland and Finland.
The decision has raised doubts over Toney’s future following his move to Saudi Arabia, but Carsley insists he will give the forward the chance to prove himself worthy of a place in the squad for as long as he remains in charge.
“Honestly, I’m thinking about that,” Carsley said.
“As interim head coach, I don’t think I can judge anyone. It would be interesting to watch Ivan play, see the level of play, the rhythm of play, the standards.”
